Our August Volunteer of the Month is Sue!
Sue’s nomination for our August Volunteer of the Month award recognises her commitment to the Limbless Association, alongside her determination that no amputee needs to cope alone.
Sue went through a challenging time following the loss of her limb, and spoke with one of the LA’s Volunteer Visitors for guidance and support about how she could cope at a very difficult time in her life. As soon as she was able, Sue signed up to a volunteering role with the Limbless Association, becoming a Volunteer Visitor in 2022. Since then, she has supported countless people through her one-to-one peer support role.
Sue is also very keen to support other aspects of the LA’s work; being a regular attendee of the LA’s Keep Moving programme, sharing her story at events and even joining our VV Transitions Steering Group (to support the development of the LA’s new volunteering programme), Sue participates in all activities with humour and compassion.
Sue is so passionate about the LA that for the past four years she has run her own Afternoon Tea for Amputees in her beautiful garden. This event sees the whole village turn out to share in tea and cake, and to celebrate Sue’s journey with the Limbless Association. This year’s Afternoon Tea raised over £1,000 for the LA, ensuring that we can continue to support amputees throughout the country.

The LA supported me when I needed it most; now I want to make sure that other people can access the same help that I did.
