Gifts in wills are vital in enabling the LA to continue its support for amputees.

Legacy commitments have always been so important to the Limbless Association and continue to be a source of income that we are always extremely grateful to receive. Legacy donations enable us to maintain the support services that we offer to all amputees and those with congenital limb loss across the United Kingdom. We greatly appreciate those who think of us in this way and we are working hard to ensure that such funding helps provide a secure long-term foundation for our vital support to those at the point of critical need.

Gifts to charities are tax-free, so you may also reduce the amount of inheritance tax due on your estate at the same time as supporting amputees. Couples may provide a gift to take effect on the death of the surviving spouse. We recommend that you consult your solicitor when deciding to make a will, or when amending your present will. You can find more information about leaving a gift in your Will here.

The process is straightforward and has the potential to benefit the amputee community for many years ahead. You can change or add to your existing will at any time with a codicil, which is a separate legal document kept with your will. The below may be helpful in creating a codicil:

Two customary forms of wording are:

1. For a specified sum of money: I give to the Limbless Association (Registered Charity No. 803533) the sum of £……… absolutely for the charitable purposes of the Association and I declare that the receipt of the Director or other proper Officer of the Association shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my Executors for this legacy.

2. For a residuary legacy: I give the residue (or a percentage of the residue) of my Estate to the Limbless Association (Registered Charity No. 803533) absolutely for the charitable purposes of the Association and I declare that the receipt of the Director or other proper Officer of the Association shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my Executors for this legacy. Please help us to continue our work by leaving a legacy which will make a difference to the future of amputees, their families and carers for years to come.
