The Limbless Association’s Volunteer of the Month for June is awarded to Rob.
Rob has demonstrated his dedication to the Limbless Association through various volunteering roles; he is not only a LA Volunteer Visitor, but he also supports the delivery of the LA Kitchen at Mayflower Community Hospital, assists at our monthly Billericay Hub, visits patients at Basildon Hospital and supports the LA at external meetings. Rob is passionate about the LA – this shines through in all that he does – and he is committed to ensuring that No Amputee Need Cope Alone.
His role supporting the LA Kitchen is particularly of note. Rob chats with patients as they’re attending Mayflower Community Hospital, making hot drinks, offering a listening ear and putting many people at ease. The waiting room is never quiet when Rob is around! His people skills extend to our monthly Hub at Billericay, which he ran in May, and when carrying out ward visits at Basildon Hospital.
Rob has also spoken with nursing staff at Royal London’s International Nurses Day celebrations, promoting the work of the LA. He has promoted volunteering at our East of England Volunteer Involvement Day and at the LA’s Bridging the Gap seminar, eloquently sharing the difference that volunteering has made for him. He advocates that “volunteering is not a selfish act”, in that he also benefits from supporting other amputees through challenges in their lives.
Rob is a real asset to the LA. He is approachable, supportive and encouraging to all he meets. He relishes every volunteer opportunity and is a delight to work alongside, making him a very worthy winner of our Volunteer of the Month award. Thank you, Rob, for all that you do!
