8 months ago the LA met Ella Dove (26) at one of our support sessions. As a new amputee she was in the early stages of rehabilitating and dealing with the multiple complexities of living with limb loss. She has had wonderful support from her family and the Amputee Rehabilitation Unit (Guys and St Thomas’ Trust) which is where the LA’s relationship with Ella began. Just over a year after her amputation Ella, a busy journalist, is back commuting four days a week to her central London office, juggling her busy social life and supporting the LA by giving her time to our own magazine as a journalist and as a volunteer supporter willing to get stuck into a multitude of activities – read Ella’s story (cover story) in the latest issue of StepForward.

Ella’s most recent challenge has been joining one of the LA’s teams and completing the open water swim at the Superhero Tri at Dorney Lake August 19th.  There seems to be no stopping Ella now and what a fantastic achievement. In giving her support to the LA, Ella is now supporting and inspiring others to achieve lives beyond limb loss too. THANK YOU ELLA!

The LA needs other amazing volunteers and supporters, like Ella, so get in touch with Joel Clark, LA Funding and Communications Officer, to discuss how you can get involved with the LA gang – open water swimming and shoe loving not essential! Join Joel charity events programme, play the LA’s lottery (a chance to win while contributing to the LA’s work in supporting amputees at the beginning of their limb loss journey), become an LA Community Champion and share your experiences while raising awareness of the LA to local groups and many more opportunities -  give Joel a call!
